What is it about?

The structural characteristics of beetle's hind wings provide bionic inspiration for the design of foldable flapping-wing aircraft. Therefore, the analysis of material properties, functional structure, flight kinematics and aerodynamic characteristics of the hind wing is indispensable. Analytical means include mechanical testing system, scanning electron microscopy observation, motion capture device, finite element method and computational fluid dynamics software.

Why is it important?

It can also be seen that the influence of the hind wing structure on the finite element model is more significant. Adjusting the material properties can achieve the technical requirements of the flapping wing, the above results will provide an important reference for the bionic wing design of flapping-wing micro air vehicles.
