What is it about?

Underwater images are used for many purposes like detecting underwater petrol pipelines, fish classification, mineral exploration, underwater robotics and navigation etc., . But the images taken under the water are often noisy and not clear. Our work summarises the major algorithms used for clearing the noise and also results of many algorithms, to give an idea to the reader about the feasible algorithm to work and improve on.

Why is it important?

Our work puts together all the major algorithms and their results, which reduces the time for surfing the algorithms, also helps the reader to compare and figure out the feasible algorithm and start working on it.

Perspectives

I beleive this article might help researchers in underwater images. This might make many people to work on the challenging underwater images and to produce a good quality result.

For researchers who want to explore the major algorithms that may be used for underwater image restorations, this paper provides comprehensive overview and classifications of the different available algorithms and would guide the researchers to gaps and potential of the different class of algorithms. For researchers who are already in the area, this paper gives overall perspective of their own works.
