What is it about?

WECC composite load model is a cutting-edge load model that is accurate but too complex. This paper proposes an improved dynamic order reduction approach based on singular perturbation method to reduce the system order of WECC composite load model.

Why is it important?

WECC composite load model can capture more dynamic characteristics than the conventional load models, e.g., the fault induced delayed voltage recovery (FIDVR) cases. However, this complex nonlinear model is of high system order which increases the difficulty and computational burden for power system studies. To simplify the model and maintain the accuracy, this paper proposes a novel order reduction approach by embedding our proposed accuracy assessment critertion in a closed-loop manner.
