What is it about?
In this article, a new categorization approach is proposed for more precise segregation of predictive controllers (PCs) applied to AC motor drives. In this categorization, PCs are categorized based on existence or absence of a cost-function, number of voltage-vectors applied to motor in each control cycle, and prediction horizon. Basic concepts, operating principles, and important characteristics of each category are explained in depth.

In recent decades, PCs are repeatedly used in various applications. PCs cover a very wide category of high performance controllers which are not clearly segregated in recent researches.; hence, in this article, PCs are categorized more precisely.
