What is it about?

We present a synthetic example showing how marine controlled source electromagnetic sounding can be used to detect the presence and properties of sediments that are obscured by layers of basalt (or other resistive material), a problem that is notoriously hard to solve using conventional seismic methods.

Why is it important?

The method presented provides a useful complement to more conventional geophysical methods in areas of complex geology.
