What is it about?
The uniHELO instrument is a questionnaire developed to identify listening difficulties for kids with unilateral hearing loss. We have shown that it is a reliable questionnaire to use for kids between 8-14 years, and that it is more reliable for this population that the current clinical gold standard, the Pediatric SSQ.

Why is it important?
The uniHELO may be a more appropriate questionnaire to use for children with single-sided deafness, as it targets their specific listening challenges. Other questionnaires, such as the Pediatric SSQ, were developed for children with bilateral hearing loss, and may not adequately describe the burden of having hearing loss in one ear.
