What is it about?

Providing healthcare services remotely (telehealth) has been increasing in the past decade with dramatic growth during the Covid-19 pandemic. Audiologists, however, have been somewhat slower to adopt this model of care (teleaudiology) when compared to other healthcare professions, This article suggests some reasons why audiologists may be reluctant to embrace teleaudiology based on what we know about the reasons people change, or do not change, their healthcare behavior.

Why is it important?

Remotely-delivered healthcare has been widely accepted by providers and patients because of its convenience and reduced costs while achieving similar clinical outcomes to conventionally-delivered care for many conditions. By not adopting teleaudiology, audiologists risk losing patients who value convenience and lower costs, to the over-the-counter hearing aid market.
