Perspectives

This paper is important as it is part of a interesting story. It needs to be read together with some of the other papers from the Anthony F. Hill group listed below. There is a metal binding molecule (a ligand) called which hydro-tris-(methimazolyl)borato (Tm for short) which is like a cats paw with three claws formed by the sulfur atoms. This can grab hold of metals. In the case of tungstein it will bind with the three sulfurs and normally that is largely the end of the story. But case of metals such as ruthenium one of the claws of the Tm can come off and then the hydrogen at the back of the Tm can attach to the metal. This can lead to the formation of a direct B-M bond in suitable systems. If one of the sulfur claws of Tm is replaced with a hydrogen atom when we have the Bm ligand. This is able to attach to metals such as ruthenium or osmium where the two sulfur claws attach to the metal and one of the hydrogens also attachs to the metal. The chemistry of the Bm ligand is an important model for the Tm molecule. In this paper the relative ability of the Bm ligand and the Bp ligand (one with two nitrogen claws) to grab hold the of the metal with a hydrogen are compared. Foreman, MRSJ. Hill, AF. Owen, GR.
