What is it about?

Addition of aromatic phenyl groups to the carbon nitride framework increased the Pi-conjugation level, which ultimately enhanced the light adsorption towards longer wavelength of visible light.

Why is it important?

The addition of phenyl groups also created long carbon nitride network of large voids with ten-fold increment in surface area, which is essential for surface catalytic reactions.

Perspectives

Molecular grafting approach is a sustainable and low-cost way to prepare metal-free high efficient photocatalytic materials for the desired application. The simple preparation and availability of numerous aromatic molecules open new directions to look for possible grafting molecules as light sensitizers. This molecular grafting method can also be applied to the core structure of graphene, CNT, and CNP, etc.
