What is it about?

Bifuran compounds were studied for the first time as corrosion inhibitors. We have shown that bifuran compounds are effective corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in diluted acid solutions. The presence of pyridine ring in aza-analogue improves the corrosion inhibition power. In general, bifuran inhibitors are lower in action than its counterpart thiophene-furan.

Why is it important?

Our findings reveal that the heteroatoms incorporated in the five-membered bichalcophene rings have the most influence in the corrosion inhibitor mechanism. Thus, designing new compounds could bring up desirable effect to mitigate the disastrous failure due to corrosion.
