What is it about?

While peptide synthesis is mostly performed in toxic solvents, we propose an environmentally friendly alternative, in water, at room temperature. 2 steps can be performed in 1-pot, to make the process even greener.

Why is it important?

The purpose is to get organic solvent out of peptide synthesis, to address health and environmental issues.

Perspectives

This method is not only a “replacement” of solvents. The hydrophobic effect created by the micellar media helps the reaction to proceed faster. In some cases, micellar catalysis succeeded when organic solvents failed.
