What is it about?
Thiolated Au18 cluster is bio-compatible and it has demonstrated that is able to adsorb cisplatin molecule(s). The calculated adsorption energy is comprised in the 0.5 - 3.6 eV range and it opens up a new direction into the thiolated gold cluster potential applications

Why is it important?
The cisplatin is a well known anticancer drug but unfortunately it features side effects due to its loss during it transit toward affected organs or tissues. Our goal is to provide with a nano-carrier able to "transport" cisplatin maintaining cisplatin integrity (amount and structure).
Perspectives
In the meantime we hope our study might encourage to experimentalist to confirm our computational prediction. This kind of studies will result in a new direction in the search of applications of thiolated gold clusters
