What is it about?

Λ-shape molecules capable to interact with light and rearrange their structure are introduced.

Why is it important?

The Ʌ-shape molecular geometry of these switchable products has enabled various useful properties including the provision of active sites for intermolecular interactions in the Trans-state. These interactions can be adjusted by switching the azo groups and can be used in molecular recognition studies.

Perspectives

These products, as the first of their kind, are unique and have a great potential for being used in the design of molecular machines.
