What is it about?

Altering the way molecules orient at interfaces allows control of the properties of the molecule. By using carefully prepared very well ordered layers of copper iodide we can control the way molecules form crystals on a surface similar to glass (oxidised silicon). This provides a better understanding of how and why the changes we observe are taking place

Why is it important?

While the precedent for the behavior of similar molecules on copper iodide layers has been set by other authors, a deep understanding how each layer forms was not presented. Here, we have carefully characterized the copper iodide layer and by making changes to this layer shown a resulting change in the organic layer grown on top. A deep understanding of this process is vital if this system and other systems are intended for use in efficient light absorbing or emitting devices.
