What is it about?

The high purity of the novel monomer Trt-HIS-NCA resulted to “living” polymerization and model poly(L-histidine). The influence of either leucine (LEU) or γ-benzyl-L-glutamate (BLG) randomly distributed along the PHIS chain on the pKa and degree of protonation was also studied The results indicate that it is possible to fine-tune the protonation of PHIS as a function of pH and temperature, a prerequisite for drug and gene delivery applications.

Why is it important?

We synthesized a novel monomer to result well defined poly(L-Histidine). We showed a way to control the disruption of PHIS as a function of pH and temperature. This is extremely usefull for drug delivery applications where we want control of where the drug will be released.
