What is it about?

The relationship between zinc and diabetes therapy has been recognized for several years. In the present study, type 2 diabetic mice were treated with Zn complex based on the evaluation of biochemical and morphological methods. From the results, pancreatic islet cells were clearly improved, and plasma insulin concentrations were significantly reduced. Additionally, fat deposition in the liver was found to be significantly lowered.

Why is it important?

Zn complex exhibited superior antidiabetic effects and this was owing to greater amelioration of the morphological parameters of the pancreas and liver.

Perspectives

Potent and safe zinc complex, as a new drug candidate, have possibilities of clinical trial and development for treatment of type 2 diabetic patients in the near future.
