What is it about?

Here we demonstrate that it is possible to generate magnetoliposomes (liposomes containing magnetic nanoparticles) without the need of costly and time consuming size-reduction steps. Also we prove that it is feasible to use peristaltic micropumps - which are smaller and cheaper - instead of syringe pumps to drive the fluids and achieve similar results compared to what is obtained with traditional magnetoliposome preparation methods.

Why is it important?

We believe that microfluidic-guided generation of liposomes and magnetoliposomes in small, low-cost portable systems holds potential towards affordable point-of-care medicine.
