What is it about?
We developed a new reference procedure for the quantification of platinum and palladium in automotive exhaust emissions. This procedure is based on isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) and provides results, which are accompanied by an uncertainty Budget and which are SI-traceable. We analysed a number of exhaust samples from different cars/engines and could also convert them in Emission rates with full uncertainty Statements.

Why is it important?
These are the first measurements for Palladium and platinum in automotive exhaust emissions considering metrological principles.
