What is it about?

The effects of small quantities of oxygen in neon glow discharges are discussed to complement previous work using argon and thus give a fuller understanding of discharge processes.

Why is it important?

The results of a comprehensive multi-line study on the effect of small quantities of oxygen in a neon glow discharge with a copper sample are reported and discussed. Various atomic and ionic processes such as electronic excitation, three body collisional recombination, neutralization of copper ions, Penning excitation, Penning Ionization and Asymmetric charge transfer are discussed in this work.
