What is it about?

A large amount of mobile phase is necessary to purify chemicals in silica gel solid phase chromatography. This liquid component can be made more sustainable by switching from hazardous substances. Instead of dichloromethane / methanol (for polar molecules) or ethyl acetate / hexanes (for nonpolar), a combination of isopropyl acetate, methanol, and heptane can be substituted for both polar and nonpolar. This has benefits for worker safety, disposal costs, and the environment.
