What is it about?
Morphological transition of size-selected Ptn clusters (7 ≤ n ≤ 20) on Al2O3/NiAl(110) was investigated by STM, IRAS. Ptn clusters lay flat with a planar structure (n ≤ 18), and 3D double layer (n ≥ 19). Using CO probe molecules, two ontop CO species were assigned as adsorbed CO on neutral and slightly cationic Pt atoms.

Why is it important?
The observed size dependence of the Pt atoms inside the clusters may contribute to the size-dependent chemical reactivity of Ptn clusters on the Al2O3 surface.
