Azobenzene, E- and Z-.

What is it about?

Two isomers of azobenzene were characterized via their unique vibrational signatures ("fingerprints"). Transformation between Z- and E- forms were induced by laser light.

Why is it important?

Azobenzene and is the parent molecule of an important family molecules widely used as dyes and molecular switches. This work contributes to understanding of the structure, spectra and photochemistry of azobenzenes.
