What is it about?

Conventional fluoride detection is done by fluorogenic organic receptor is based on deprotonation to affect the fluorophore directly or indirectly. In such cases distinction between hydroxide and fluoride ions is difficult. In the present study the hydroxide self assembly of anion of the fluororphoric substrate with neutral counterpart, and fluoride leading to fluoride assisted assemblies in solid state are shown. These assemblies also carries clear distinctions in the visible spectroscopic carrying own signature in solution too .

Why is it important?

This provides examples how the fluoride ions and hydroxide ions can make a difference in forming self-assemblies with same receptor molecule..

Perspectives

Fluoride detection in basic aqueous medium by fluorophore operating on deprotonation mechanism is difficult and is an issue to address.
