What is it about?

The microfluidic system demonstrates a new concept for very fast and simple preparation of hydrogel diagnostic assays. Sensing gel microstructures for fast molecule diffusion are automatically formed by pressure barrier based liquid guiding after injecting the precursor. The analyte fills the space between gel strips, with a minimum of required sample but yielding a maximum of available sensing area. This design and the arrangement of the chip arrays allow for macroscopic readout.

Why is it important?

The evolution of user friendly microfluidics assays eventually will yield simple tools for clinical applications. Simplicity of assay design and operation in order to gain clinical acceptance has driven our efforts. Combining several diagnostic tests offers the possibility for multi-parametric analysis at the point-of-care.
