What is it about?

Unusual inversed size-exclusion effect was found in guest Inclusion by calixarene, which is a source of record thermal stability of its guest-host clathrates

Why is it important?

The paper reveals an unusual structure-property relationship for the studied calixarene, which, together with a calixarene specific crystal packing and used indirect method of guest inclusion, makes its clathrates with smaller guests extremely thermally stable. The paper gives a guideline for researchers, who design new supramolecular receptors for storage of gases and volatile compounds, and develop new methods of clathrate preparation.
