What is it about?

A unique method for determination of melamine in milk by the first derivative UV spectrophotometry coupled with H-point standard addition method was proposed. It possesses the advantages such as rapid, simple, sensitive, inexpensive and organic solvents-free. The method was applied successfully to milk powder and liquid milk samples.

Why is it important?

Pre-treatment of milk sample is only precipitation with silica gel in hydrochloric acid. For the first time, a chemical reaction variable, i.e. the concentration of hydrochloric acid was used to construct the two standard-addition curves in H-point standard addition method. It may attract the attentions of analytical chemists, food chemists and dairy manufacturers, so on.
