What is it about?

This article describes highly solvent, substrate guided synthesis of polynuclear cadmium complexes either in the form of dinuclear complex or as metallacycles.

Why is it important?

Equilibration between metallacycle and dinuclear complex with same composition is like opening and closing of a pore. How solvents regulate such a process is shown in this paper. Thus it provides a fundamental aspect of closed and open pore systems in dinuclear coordination complexes.

Perspectives

The paper dealing with a new class of flexible dicarboxylates with a V-shape connectivity provides wide avenues to study their properties at different dimensions and with different structural variations.
