What is it about?

A series of dicarboxylate complexes having etheral linkages encapsulating alkali metal ions are described. Depending on the orientations of the flexible carboxylic acid groups tethered to ether linkages wide variations in structures and compositions of the metal complexes are observed.

Why is it important?

Ion recognition by coordination polymers and metallacyclyes are important. In this study careful choice of ligands based on positional isomers of naphthalene oxydiacetic acids are studied to show formation of mixed metal complexes having alkali metal ions with crown like effect of the ligands in specific cases.

Perspectives

Molecular recognition by crown like effect in metal complexes have prospect in making polynuclear complexes with interesting material and biological properties.
