What is it about?

We have synthesized a novel octahedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) having a carbazole unit at each corner of POSS. Photoluminescence properties of the novel POSS were investigated. It was found that the POSS having carbazole showed unique photoluminescence properties.

Why is it important?

This is the first report on the synthesis of POSS having carbazole with well-defined structure. Although another research group reported the POSS having pi-electron compound, its chemical structure was not controlled well. It is very important to control the chemical structure on the investigation of photoluminescence properties.

Perspectives

After our report, many papers related with photoluminescence properties of POSS having several types of pi-electron systems were reported. However, unfortunately, many of them did not cite our paper.... But anyway, this suggests that our paper gave a useful design concept for the photoluminescence materials. Researches with ethics should quote this paper in their papers.
