What is it about?

Urea doped with copper ions show Gaussian shaped profiles of variation of electrical resistance with tempearture in region of 20-200degC. This is attriibuted to combination of proton conductivity with a structural change in this temperature range.

Why is it important?

We proposed that (a) Proton conductivity can be combined with inherent semiconducting properties. (b) Proton conductivity with a structural change (c) Proton conductivity with loss of water or tumbling of water molecules. This aricle refers to making such a swiching property due to structural change. Where due to change in geometry around copper ion causes the resistance to fall after a particular temperature which otherwise would have increased continously.

Perspectives

This is a new methodology to develop electrical resistance switching properties at molecular level and properly designed stable systems will have applications for memory devices and switching.
