What is it about?

In this publication, we show how metals are essential for the form and function of RNA. For instance, they are needed as mere charge compensation close by, but also highly defined bound for a correct 3D fold. Last but not least, appropriate metal ions are cofactors in catalysis, which could not occur otherwise.

Why is it important?

Dead-on metal binding is required for a correct fold and hence a correct function of these catalytic molecules.
