What is it about?
Heavy metals contaminated soil can be treated using phytoremediation technology for soil requalification.

Why is it important?
The fate of harvested biomass resulting from such phytoremediation may represent an obstacle for its implementation and strategies for disposal and, desirably, valorisation of this contaminated biomass are essential.
Perspectives
In this review the authors discuss this subject, focusing on the use of this biomass as by-products with added value, namely for the production of biomass derived energy, within a circular economy concept.
