What is it about?

Bio-ethanol to acetic acid is an environmentally-friendly alternative to the carbonation of methanol. Oxidation in liquid-phase can be operated in milder conditions. The traditionally used batch reactor, used until now in the aforementioned research, limits testing applications and is far away from any future realistic industrial application. We have tested the catalytic performance of a gold-based catalyst in a trickle-flow rector and prove that operating in flow is highly beneficial.
