What is it about?

Fast scanning calorimetry can be used to characterize microcrystal of nanogram weight from the ordinary microcrystalline powder. Different polymorphs are discriminated by different meltintg points and different numbers of phase transitions.

Why is it important?

Calorimetric characterization of polymorphs is the most sample consuming method of polymorph screening. The fast scanning calorimetry is free from this setback, which is important for very expensive compounds prepared in very small amounts

Perspectives

The experimental results and approaches proposed in this work can be used to boost the efficiency of polymorph screening for medical drugs, active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and new compounds for medical applications
