Protein-protein interactions by atomic force microscopy

What is it about?

We have applied three techniques (atomic force microscopy, gel assays and surface plasmon resonance) to study the subunit assembly of an enzyme called EcoR124I, known as a Type IC Restriction–Modification enzyme.

Why is it important?

The paper shows that this multi-subunit enzyme is an ideal model system for studying protein-protein interactions.

This paper also explains how to retrieve molecular volume information of proteins from AFM images and compare such data to theoretical volumes derived from molecular mass.
