Organocatalytic intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction.

What is it about?

A new method for the synthesis of some new xanthene derivatives which are important cyclic molecules has been developed. Intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction was achived using organocatalyst for the first time. Therefore our method provided the synthesis of some novel substituted 9-arylxanthenes with excellent yields at room temperature within 15 minutes.

Why is it important?

The method which does not require inert reaction conditions or any protection, is highly effective, inexpensive and non-toxic for the rapid synthesis of xanthenes at room temperature.

Personally, I think this article has developed a new perspective which indicating that organocatalysts can be used on intramolecular cyclization reactions.
