Deep eutectic solvents for biocatalysis

What is it about?

New biodegradable and inexpensive solvents based on choline have been developed and were found compatible with enzymes such as lipases and proteases.

Why is it important?

These new eutectic solvents are easy to prepare, nontoxic and biodegradable. They could be alternatives to volatile organic solvents and expensive ionic liquids used in enzymatic processes.
