What is it about?

This is the first work describing the lasso structures in proteins and analyzing their basic statistical properties.

Why is it important?

The lasso structure may have important implication in biology and biophysics of proteins. This work shows, that 18% of proteins with bridges have complex lasso topology, therefore the awareness of the topology may be crucial for 18% of researchers working with proteins with disulfide bridges.

Perspectives

This work shows for the first time the existence of lassos in proteins and for the first time classifies such motifs. It also shows, that there can be some correspondence between the lasso motif and the function of a protein.
