What is it about?

DNA resection is the first critical step to start DNA double-strand repair via homologous recombination. Here we investigate the importance of exonuclease I (Exo1) and the highly conserved DNA helicase Rqh1 (a homolog of human BLM) for DNA repair in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. We find that Exo1 and Rqh1 function in alternative redundant pathways for promoting survival following the perturbation of DNA replication.
