What is it about?

This is the first publication presenting our systematic research on the laser-induced shock wave destruction of human cancer cells (U87 glioblastoma). We could proof a convincing biological destructive effect in the cancer cells due to shock wave treatment. This Nature paper describes our research approach and the systematic measurement of the necessary pressure levels to achieve destruction of cancer cells.

Why is it important?

The laser-induced destruction of cancer cells might allow for additional therapies for cancer treatment in the long run. Admittedly, however, our study presented here, constitutes pure fundamental research on standard cell lines and the major step to tissue or even basic organisms would still be huge.
