What is it about?

The gut mycobiome impacts the hosts metabolic adaption to their diet, in particular diets high in processed foods. Here we utilized differences in the mycobiome of mice from different vendors to examine how different diets (chow vs processed food) altered host metabolism and body composition.

Why is it important?

This is the first paper showing broad impact of the mouse mycobiome on metabolism.

Perspectives

This paper highlights the potential importance of the mycobiome for metabolic research and suggests that the majority of work that has focused solely on the bacterial microbiome may be incomplete.
