What is it about?
We sequenced 1,052 SARS-CoV-2 samples collected across Pakistan from March to October 2021 using an Oxford Nanopore GridION platform. Alpha dominated the first half of the year and Delta the second. The study also mapped frequent mutations and highlighted the regional presence of the uncommon AY.108 lineage.

Why is it important?
Large-scale local sequencing reveals when variants emerge and replace one another. The work demonstrates a scalable surveillance approach for Pakistan and can support public-health decisions, vaccine updates and preparedness for future outbreaks.
Perspectives
From my perspective, this work matters because Large-scale local sequencing reveals when variants emerge and replace one another. I hope the findings support further research and informed, evidence-based decisions.
