What is it about?

Electric and magnetic fields of a laser pulse localized in both space and time, a light bullet, are derived and their propagation characteristics are discussed.

Why is it important?

Useful for particle acceleration in vacuum or in an under-dense plasma. Maybe used to simulate all sorts of laser-matter interactions when the laser pulse is both ultra-short and tightly-focused.

Perspectives

Light bullets of the sort described carry orbital angular momentum, which makes them useful for data transfer applications.
