What is it about?
Fibromyalgia is a legitimate disease characterized symptomatically by pain, fatigue, cognitive difficulties ("brain fog" or "fibro fog"), sleep impairment, anxiety/depression, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Objectively, researchers have consistently noted impaired energy production in cells' mitochondria, disturbances in muscle architecture, low-level inflammation, and alterations in gastrointestinal bacteria. Dr Vasquez's publications since 2008 have organized the research on fibromyalgia into a cohesive model of the disorder that allows doctors and patients to easily understand and treat this condition.

Why is it important?
Quite obviously, effective and efficient treatment of fibromyalgia allows patients to shed the pain and restrictions imposed by the disease. In contrast, drug treatment of fibromyalgia is both more expensive and more dangerous (note that all drugs approved for fibromyalgia treatment have "black box warnings" due to their risks), and drug treatment aimed to alleviate pain does not cure the disease, thereby forcing patients to continue to have the majority of their symptoms which are untouched by the drugs.
Perspectives
The science-based clinical protocol for fibromyalgia is described in Dr Vasquez's book Brain Inflammation in Migraine and Fibromyalgia; the larger protocol that details gastrointestinal dysbiosis and mitochondrial dysfunction is published as Inflammation Mastery, 4th Edition.
