What is it about?

There are different mechanisms of blood vessel growth in response to ischemia. We explain how these different aspects can be studied separately and specifically. Importantly, we explain how arteries grow in response to vessel occlusion and how this can be studied.

Why is it important?

Growth of functional arteries is essential for the restoration of blood flow and regeneration of ischemic organs. This occurs through development and maturation of small collateral arteries into conduit vessels, termed postnatal arteriogenesis, the only mechanism capable to fully restore blood flow.
