What is it about?

The mechanism of stable replication induced by gamma rays was studied. RecB protein is necessary but DNA polymerase I is dispensable, indicating reinitiating of DNA replication provoked by irradiation.

Why is it important?

Our observation that repair polymerase is not necessary for gamma ray induced DNA synthesis is in favor for the hypothesis of reinitiating of DNA replication and not DNA short patches synthesis.
