What is it about?
Nectocaris is an infamous fossil from the exceptional Burgess Shale soft-bodied fossil deposit. 91 new specimens allow us, finally, to provide a full reconstruction of this organism – which represents the earliest fossil 'cephalopod'. Nectocaris does not match the expected body plan of the ancestral cephalopod, potentially prompting a re-think of cephalopod evolution.
