Why is it important?
This study provides the first evidence that an excessive release of biologically active chemokines CCL5, CCL11, and CCL24 may promote the airway recruitment of fibrocytes in severe/treatment-refractory asthma by demonstrating that over 50% of the fibrocyte chemotactic activity present in the sputum from patients with severe/treatment-refractory disease is attributable to a combination of CCL5, CCL11, and CCL24.
