What is it about?

Most common causes of Chronic Kidney Disease worldwide are diabetes and hypertension. We report that in rural communities the prevalence CKD is high and this is not associated with diabetes. Hypertension is common and could be a secondary effect. The histology, tubulo-interstitial disease favours possible toxic exposures. Need further investigations to understand the disease profile and possible etiologies which could be multifactorial.

Why is it important?

Our results contributes to the rising prevalence of CKD where the etiology is uncertain, observed in many rural communities in low income countries. Theere has to be a global effort to examine all aspects of life styles of these communities.

Perspectives

Conducting epidemiological studies require participaion of large number of personnel and funding. Committement and scientific methodology is important and require close collaboration with personnel from different fields. Further, clear understanding of lifestyles of communities is imperetive to get maximum participation of individuals. In chronic diseases it is difficult to state a cause effect relationship of a disease. We could only generate hypotheses
