What is it about?
A one-sentence typing test was linked with thinking abilities, daily functioning, and overall health in more than 10,000 adults. This simple test could provide researchers with a quick and practical way to measure everyday functioning in large studies.

Why is it important?
As typing becomes a routine part of daily life, it may offer a simple way to assess how well people are functioning. The fact that a one-sentence typing test produced a meaningful typing speed measure greatly increases the feasibility of its use.
Perspectives
I worked as a school based occupational therapist, and in that context typing speed was meaningful in its importance for students (beyond the primary grades) to function in the school environment. This article emerged from the thought that, beyond school, typing speed could also be meaningful for adults in several aspects of their daily lives.
